LGU Dalaguete bought land to protect Flying Foxes!

LGU Dalaguete resolution declaring the procurement of private land for flying fox protection and forest rehabilitation.

Dalaguete municipality bought land to save the roosting colony of endemic and threatened flying foxes. Dalaguete is the only place in the Philippines where four species of flying foxes can be found in relatively the same roosting areas. It is also the first local government to buy land rights to save endemic and threatened flying foxes and their forest habitat. This is made possible through the support of the Municipal Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante and Dalaguete Municipal Council lead by Vice-mayor Jeffrey Belciña and his councilors. The Municipal Agriculture and Natural Resources Officer (MANRO) Engr. Expedizitas Lenares and her team as well as the Municipal planning office who took the lead in working with Barangay Malones and Lanao as well as with the members of Dalaguete Bantay Lasang.

We thank the support of Filipinos for Flying Foxes project thru Bat Conservation International and with funding support from IUCN Save Our Species (SOS); Chester Zoo – Act for Wildlife; Lear Corporation; Cebu Technological University – Argao Campus through Dr. Hemres Alburo; Philippines Science High School – Central Visayas; Dr. Tammy Mildenstein; Felix Villacorta and to the many individuals who we have not mentioned but had helped us in one way or another to make this happen. Daghang salamat!
